A long, long time ago I read in a book from the ‘Gesamtausgabe’ from Rudolf Steiner a passage that gave me the courage to think so intensely and warmly about the contents of Anthroposophy that they begin to grow and flourish in my own spiritual activity. Within anthroposophical circles there are people who think that one must strictly keep to the words that are written, and not think beyond them.
I searched for the passage, but did not know where it stood anymore. I never left the point of view, I always kept the courage to think along and further independently. No matter how much resistance there was…
Now I once again studied the lecture series ‘Okkultes Lesen und Hören’ (GA 156) for the seminar in Samaya and … found the passage there, in the 4th lecture.
‘Yes, the best thing would be if the study of such a book, as “Theosophy” is, were so eagerly pursued that even some readers themselves would come up with something from such hints, as they are given there, as it has now been discussed. There is a lot in these books, and one could come to these facts all by himself, if one would read with the heart, with the whole inner spiritual experience. But books written in the field of spiritual science are usually not read with the necessary attention. They really won’t, because otherwise, after “Theosophy” and “How to Obtain Knowledge of the Higher Worlds” and perhaps also the “Secret Science in an Outline” have been written, all lecture-cycles could have been written or held by anyone other than myself. It’s basically all in these books, you just don’t usually believe it. And how much could be written when everything contained in the four Mystery Dramas was brought out!I am not saying this to show off- I have already spoken enough about the humility of the occultist, the spiritual researcher – I am saying it to encourage the real reading of these writings, which had to be given in our time, and for which one personally has as little merit as possible.
